Per Johansson
In April 2017, Per Johansson received an invitation to urgently join Bucharest, aiming to get into the ‘final four’ of the Champions League. The Swede started working with the team a week before the first quarterfinal meeting with ‘Ferencváros’. He spent these few days on tactical training and communication with handball players and tried to involve each of them in building optimal game models. The coach combined all the considerations into one document, thereby making it possible for the athletes to comprehend the theory at a convenient pace for them. As a result, after an express training course, the Hungarian team was beaten twice, but in the semifinals ‘Bucharest’ lost to ‘Vardar’ - 33:38. In the fight for the third place, the Romanian club defeated ‘Buduchnost’ (26:20).
In March 2018, Helle Thomsen left ‘Bucharest’, and the Romanian capital remembered Per Johansson, who had also received the team at the end of the season a year earlier and managed to win eight meetings out of nine with it. The Swedish specialist took over the leadership of ‘Bucharest’ for the second time. This experience was also positive: the team reached the Champions League ‘final four’, where after being defeated by ‘Gyor’ they won the match for third place against ‘Rostov-Don’. For the third and so far the last time Per came to ‘Bucharest’ in February of this year, where he became an assistant to Adrian Vasile. It is noteworthy that in the Montenegrin national team, the colleagues worked in opposite roles, and also have already crossed paths in the capital's club, but then Vasile was an assistant.
Emotional character, but at the same time diplomacy and a heightened sense of justice of Johansson are the reasons for a successful career as the head coach of the Montenegrin national team. The Swede urgently accepted the team, and the first agreement was calculated exclusively for the time of the top tournament. Scandinavian restraint and correctness in statements deny Per in the most tense moments, and that is why he calls himself only ‘half Swede’. His girls in the Montenegrin national team also say that they have never seen a coach who is able to be very temperamental, but return to a calm state in a matter of seconds. Nevertheless, it was through peaceful and respectful actions to gain credibility, first of all, among experienced handball players, that Johansson managed to establish a comfortable microclimate in the national team during the 2017 World Cup. At the EHF Euro in 2018, the Montenegrins finished in ninth place. But at 2020 World Cup, Johansson's team was fifth.

head coach
After almost three years at the helm of the Montenegrin national team, one can state: Johansson managed to become something more for Balkan girls than just a specialist invited for specific tasks. He himself considers himself an easy person and a rather progressive coach: "It is important to laugh more, including at yourself. Besides, I never collect mobile phones from players at night, it seems to me that this is an outdated method." In 2022 Per Johansson has been appointed the new coach of the Netherlands women’s national team. “It is overwhelming that the federation has chosen me. I see it as my task to combine experienced players and young talent, to bring balance to the team and to let them develop towards the future,” said Johansson.
